Amends the Military Code of Illinois. Authorizes the Department of Military Affairs, subject to appropriation, to also make grants from the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund to (i) Illinois residents who are active duty members of the armed forces of the United States or members of the reserves of the armed forces of the United States and who are wounded in combat while deployed in support of the global war on terrorism and (ii) the families of those persons. Provides that the Department must establish a casualty-based grant program.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Military Code of Illinois is amended by |
5 |
| changing Section 22-9 as follows:
|

| (20 ILCS 1805/22-9)
|

| Sec. 22-9. Power to make grants from the Illinois Military
|
8 |
| Family Relief Fund. Subject to appropriation, the Department of |
9 |
| Military
Affairs shall have the power to make grants from the |
10 |
| Illinois Military
Family Relief Fund, a special fund created in |
11 |
| the State treasury, to (i) single persons who are members of |
12 |
| the Illinois National Guard , (ii) or Illinois residents who are |
13 |
| members of the reserves of the armed forces of the United |
14 |
| States and who have been called to active duty as a result of |
15 |
| the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks , (iii) Illinois |
16 |
| residents who are active duty members of the armed forces of |
17 |
| the United States or members of the reserves of the armed |
18 |
| forces of the United States and who are wounded in combat while |
19 |
| deployed in support of the global war on terrorism, and (iv) |
20 |
| families of the classes of persons listed in items (i), (ii), |
21 |
| and (iii) of this Section and to families
of persons who are |

| members of the Illinois National Guard or Illinois residents
