Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Retired Air Force license plates. Provides that in addition to the appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall be charged a fee of $15 at original issuance and $2 for each renewal. Provides that the $15 issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 3-624.5 as follows: |
6 |
| (625 ILCS 5/3-624.5 new) |

| Sec. 3-624.5. Retired Air Force plates. |

| (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in |
9 |
| the
form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue to |
10 |
| retired members of
the United States Air Force who reside in |
11 |
| Illinois, special
registration plates designated as Retired |
12 |
| Air Force plates. The special plates issued under this Section |
13 |
| shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
14 |
| division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second |
15 |
| division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued |
16 |
| under this Section shall expire according to the staggered |
17 |
| multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
18 |
| Code. |

| (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |
20 |
| wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The |
21 |
| Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be |
22 |
| issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with |
23 |
| Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to |
