| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
| 5 |
| Section 1-172 as follows:
|
| 6 |
| (625 ILCS 5/1-172) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 1-172)
|
| 7 |
| Sec. 1-172. Residence district. The territory contiguous |
| 8 |
| to and including
a highway not comprising a business district |
| 9 |
| when the property on such highway
for a distance of 300 feet or |
| 10 |
| more is in the main improved with residences
or residences and |
| 11 |
| buildings in use for business.
|
| 12 |
| For purposes of establishing maximum speed limits, a |
| 13 |
| residence district
shall be at least a quarter of a mile long |
| 14 |
| with residences or residences
and buildings in use for |
| 15 |
| businesses spaced no more than 500 300 feet apart.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
