    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by changing

Section 3-1 as follows:

    Sec. 3-1. Presumption of innocence and
and proof of guilt.

Every person is presumed innocent until proved guilty. No 
9
person shall
be convicted of any offense unless his guilt 
10
thereof is proved beyond a
reasonable doubt.
