| SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes that the human |
| 3 |
| embryo is a stage of human life; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Human lives are not objects to be manipulated and |
| 5 |
| destroyed for research purposes; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Human embryonic stem cell research necessitates |
| 7 |
| the dismemberment and destruction of human embryos; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Adult stem cell, umbilical cord blood, and |
| 9 |
| amniotic material research have far exceeded early |
| 10 |
| expectations and continue to yield successful and promising |
| 11 |
| treatments and cures, and are significant and better research |
| 12 |
| alternatives to destructive embryonic stem cell research; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Scientists are making further impressive progress |
| 14 |
| on new techniques, such as fusion regeneration and |
| 15 |
| parthenogenesis, that represent non-destructive alternatives |
| 16 |
| to sacrificing human life; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Human embryonic stem cell research is contrary to |
| 18 |
| the dignity and sanctity of each individual person as a |
| 19 |
| fertilized egg, which combines the essential genetic materials |
| 20 |
| that define and individualize human identity; and
