| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Orlinda (Hunter) Golliday; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Orlinda was born on October 3, 1911 in Mound |
5 |
| Bayou, Mississippi; her parents were Isiah Hunter and Mattie B. |
6 |
| Morgan-Hunter; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Orlinda professed Christ at an early age; as a |
8 |
| child, she attended a Baptist church with her parents, where |
9 |
| she was involved in many activities; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Orlinda attended grade school and high school in |
11 |
| Mississippi; she was urged by her mother to further her |
12 |
| education and to pray that she would be a public speaker and |
13 |
| capture the attention of her audiences; she then attended |
14 |
| Campbell Methodist College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she |
15 |
| received her teaching certificate for grades one through eight; |
16 |
| she then returned to Mississippi and began her teaching career; |
17 |
| and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Orlinda was united in holy matrimony to Douglas |
19 |
| Golliday on February 1, 1937; their 57 years of marriage was |
20 |
| blessed with one son; the family later moved to Brooklyn, |
21 |
| Illinois, where they joined Southern Tabernacle; in 1944, the |

| family moved to East St. Louis; Orlinda then proceeded to join |
2 |
| the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of |
3 |
| the Choral Ensemble, Voices of Zion, and Golden Tones; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Fulfilling her mother's wish, Orlinda spoke |
5 |
| publicly at many Baptist and Methodist conventions, as well as |
6 |
| university graduations and other special events; she continued |
7 |
| speaking until the age of 92, when she participated in her |
8 |
| great-grandchildren's school event "The Person I Most Admire"; |
9 |
| during the event, the students were captivated by her life |
10 |
| stories and gave their undivided attention; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Orlinda is survived by her son, Robert (Delores) |
12 |
| Golliday; her sister, Netti Webb; her special nieces, Lee Alice |
13 |
| (Golliday) Hammonds and Dorothy (Golliday) Britts; her 4 |
14 |
| grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 24 |
15 |
| great-great-grandchildren, and 4 |
16 |
| great-great-great-grandchildren; and her numerous nieces, |
17 |
| nephews, cousins, friends, and Mount Zion Missionary Baptist |
18 |
| Church family members; therefore, be it
|
19 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
21 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Orlinda (Hunter) |
22 |
| Golliday; and be it further
