| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Christos K. Hountalas of Aurora, who |
4 |
| passed away on October 16, 2008; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas was born in Kandyla, Tripolis, |
6 |
| Greece on April 15, 1924; he was the son of the late |
7 |
| Konstandinos and Eleni Hountalas; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas served in the first established |
9 |
| Greek army following World War II, where he fought against |
10 |
| Communist forces during the Greek Civil War; he was later |
11 |
| appointed an evzone (King's honor guard), one of two selected |
12 |
| out of 1500, where he guarded the tomb of the Unknown Soldier; |
13 |
| and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas immigrated to the United States, |
15 |
| where he married his sweetheart, Harriet Koulos, on April 27, |
16 |
| 1952; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas worked for Krohler Manufacturing |
18 |
| from 1952 to 1966 and Sealmaster from 1966 until his retirement |
19 |
| in 1991; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas was one of the founders of the St. |
|

| Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora in 1966; he served |
2 |
| several years on the church's parish council and building |
3 |
| committee when the church was built in its present location in |
4 |
| 1979; and |
5 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas was a regular at the City Golf |
6 |
| Courses, a game he took up at age 67, playing 4 times a week and |
7 |
| walking all 18 holes; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas is survived by his cherished |
9 |
| spouse and partner of 56 years, Harriet; his loving children, |
10 |
| the Reverend Dean (Olga), Spiro (Eleni), and Elaine (Brien) |
11 |
| McHale; his adored grandchildren, Chris, Steven, Christos, and |
12 |
| Sophia Hountalas and Brien, Siobhan, Sean, and Kevan McHale; |
13 |
| his sister, Christine Boulias; and his several cousins, |
14 |
| nephews, and nieces; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas will be remembered by all who knew |
16 |
| and loved him as a man who loved life and had a knack for |
17 |
| bringing a smile to everyone around him; therefore, be it
|
18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
20 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Christos K. Hountalas; |
