SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of I.J. Gardner, who passed away on February
4 16, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, I.J. Gardner was born on October 29, 1949 in
6 Mendenhall, Mississippi; his parents were K.C. and Lillie
7 Gardner; and
 
8     WHEREAS, I.J. Gardner attended Farragut High School, the
9 University of Illinois Circle Campus, and Haverford College in
10 Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a master's degree in
11 journalism; and
 
12     WHEREAS, I.J. Gardner served as a precinct captain and was
13 an employee of the City of Chicago's Department of Streets and
14 Sanitation, where he made many friends; and
 
15     WHEREAS, I.J. Gardner confessed his faith in Christ at an
16 early age; he was baptized at St. Peter M.B. Church, where he
17 attended until he and his family moved to Chicago and he united
18 with First Baptist Church; and
 
19     WHEREAS, I.J. Gardner was preceded in death by his father,
20 K.C., and his brother, Milton; and

1     WHEREAS, I.J. Gardner is survived by his mother, Lillie;
2 his sons, Ikari and Daevion; his grandsons, Ikari, Jr.,
3 Javonte, and Theodric; his brothers, Kasey and Jim; his
4 sisters, Peggie, Sandra, and Glenda; his uncles, George, James,
5 Ray, and Timmy; his aunts, Vernie and Hazel; his special
6 cousin, Naomi; and his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and
7 friends; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of I.J. Gardner; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of I.J. Gardner as an expression of our
14 sympathy.
