SENATE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3
learn of the death of Louis Frederick Welch of Urbana, who 
4
passed away on March 13, 2009; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, He was born at Linden, Tennessee, on March 29, 
6
1931, to Louis and Hilda Houston Welch; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, He graduated from the University of Tennessee, 
8
Auburn University, and Iowa State University; he was a member 
9
of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Gamma Sigma Delta, Alpha Zeta, 
10
Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, He was elected a fellow in the Soil Science 
12
Society of America and in the American Society of Agronomy; he 
13
worked at the Georgia Experiment Station, the United States 
14
Department of Agriculture, and the agronomy department at the 
15
University of Illinois; his research dealt with soil fertility 
16
and fertilizers; he retired from the U of I in 1990; since 
17
retirement, Marilyn and Fred have enjoyed travel, collecting 
18
seashells, and fossilized shark teeth; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his 
20
sister, Patsy Peach; and

    WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, whom he 
2
married in 1956 at Cherokee, Alabama; his three sons, Charles 
3
Welch, Tom Welch, and Steven Welch; his five granddaughters and 
4
three grandsons; his sister, Mae Phy; and his brother, Ted; 
5
therefore, be it

 
6
    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL 
7
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
8
his family and friends, the passing of Louis Frederick Welch; 
9
and be it further

 
10
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11
presented to the family of Louis Frederick Welch as a symbol of 
12
our sincere sympathy.
