| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Jack Stried of Beach Park, who passed |
4 |
| away on March 20, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, During his younger life, Jack worked for the |
6 |
| Department of Natural Resources where he served as a ranger at |
7 |
| the Illinois Beach State Park; a few years after marriage to |
8 |
| Mae DeVoe in 1949, he worked in research, developing many of |
9 |
| today's medical techniques and medicines for Abbott |
10 |
| Laboratories; he was awarded for his DNA discoveries and |
11 |
| received special honors for his development of drugs used for |
12 |
| blood pressure, burn victims, and prostate health; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, After 36 years in the lab he retired and became a |
14 |
| consultant for research and development techniques used in |
15 |
| research laboratories;
he was an avid Lake Michigan fisherman |
16 |
| on his boat named the Mae Anna; he loved fishing with his many |
17 |
| friends and family; he also enjoyed travel, photography, |
18 |
| bowling, golf, and baseball; and he was a past member of the |
19 |
| big Z riding club with his late brother Clarence Jr. (Punch); |
20 |
| and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, |
22 |
| Mae Anna (DeVoe); his father and mother, Clarence and Beulah |
