| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Anthony A. Antoniou of Oak Brook, who |
4 |
| passed away on April 14, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Anthony Antoniou was the son of Greek immigrants |
6 |
| who traded African ivory before coming to America; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, After performing naval duty during World War II, |
8 |
| Anthony Antoniou graduated from the University of Illinois at |
9 |
| Urbana-Champaign in 1950; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, In 1954, Anthony Antoniou founded what became the |
11 |
| Anvan Companies, which began as a construction firm and |
12 |
| expanded into real estate development and property management; |
13 |
| his holdings included Chicago's Knickerbocker and Barclay |
14 |
| Hotels and the Sears Building on State Street; he also |
15 |
| developed extensive properties in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, |
16 |
| including the Abbey Resort, and was responsible for the |
17 |
| construction of the 54-hole Geneva National Golf Club in |
18 |
| Wisconsin; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Anthony Antoniou is survived by his loving wife, |
20 |
| Irene; his dear children, Andreas (Jean) and Vance (Constance); |
21 |
| his dear grandchildren, Rena, Tony, Alexandra, Nickas, Andrea, |
