| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are pleased to | ||||||
| 3 | recognize milestone events in Illinois communities; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, A war is being conducted overseas by the brave men | ||||||
| 5 | and women of our armed services, who have courageously put the | ||||||
| 6 | defense of the United States of America above their own | ||||||
| 7 | personal safety and comfort; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, It is vital to the success of our troops that we | ||||||
| 9 | show our support for their service and display our pride in | ||||||
| 10 | their accomplishments; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Tee it Up for the Troops is a non-profit | ||||||
| 12 | organization established in 2005 to support the fallen and | ||||||
| 13 | disabled members of our armed forces and their families, as | ||||||
| 14 | well as to honor all of our veterans and honor their | ||||||
| 15 | sacrifices; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Tee it Up for the Troops has raised over | ||||||
| 17 | $1,000,000, which has been donated to military family support | ||||||
| 18 | programs across the country since 2005; in 2008, over 25 | ||||||
| 19 | various programs were helped through Tee it Up for the Troops, | ||||||
| 20 | providing scholarships, transportation, clothing, lodging, | ||||||
| 21 | sports activities, and kids programs, among many other | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | services; in addition, over 40,000 golf balls, along with | ||||||
| 2 | clubs, netting, and mats have been sent to the troops overseas, | ||||||
| 3 | where they have created their own driving ranges and golf | ||||||
| 4 | holes; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Friday closest to September 11th has been | ||||||
| 6 | designated by Tee it Up for the Troops, Inc. as the "National | ||||||
| 7 | Day of Golf" to salute all those that have answered the call of | ||||||
| 8 | duty; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, On August 31, 2009, the First Annual Tee it Up for | ||||||
| 10 | the Troops Central Illinois Golf Classic will be held to | ||||||
| 11 | support the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as families of | ||||||
| 12 | Central Illinois servicemen and servicewomen that are | ||||||
| 13 | currently serving and facing financial challenges as a result | ||||||
| 14 | of their serving; the event will also establish 10 scholarships | ||||||
| 15 | for children of financially challenged veterans; therefore, be | ||||||
| 16 | it

| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the date | ||||||
| 19 | of September 11, 2009 as "Tee it Up for the Troops Day" in the | ||||||
| 20 | State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to Tee it Up for the Troops, Inc. as a symbol of our | ||||||
