| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Brenda Carol (Shields) Bishop of |
4 |
| Greenfield, who passed away on May 11, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on June 20, 1941, in Carlinville, the |
6 |
| daughter of J. Russell and Mildred (Fair) Shields; she |
7 |
| graduated from Greenfield High School, Class of 1959; she |
8 |
| attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville for one year and she |
9 |
| graduated from Southern Illinois University in Alton with a |
10 |
| bachelor's degree; she married Dean E. Bishop on September 6, |
11 |
| 1960, at the Rockbridge United Methodist Church; together with |
12 |
| her husband, they graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary |
13 |
| Science in March 1963, where she graduated first in her class; |
14 |
| and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, She taught at Greenfield High School for one year |
16 |
| from 1966 to 1967; she was a licensed funeral director for over |
17 |
| forty years; she was appointed Greenfield City Clerk after the |
18 |
| death of her father and continued to hold that position for 34 |
19 |
| years until her passing; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, She was charter-Vice President for the Greenfield |
21 |
| Tiger Backers; she was an active member of the Greenfield |
22 |
| United Methodist Church, including Vacation Bible School |
|

| Supervisor for many years, founder of the SonShine Kids |

| after-school program, a trustee, and a member of the |
3 |
| Pastor-Parish Relations committee; she was very involved with |
4 |
| the Greenfield Homecoming Committee and the Greenfield Alumni |
5 |
| Association; and |
6 |
| WHEREAS, She was a co-founder of the Friend-in-Deed |
7 |
| program; she was the Bloodmobile co-coordinator for the |
8 |
| Greenfield Red Cross Blood Drive; she was a long-time member of |
9 |
| the Traveler's Club, Pinochle Club, Euchre Club, and hostess |
10 |
| for the Friday Morning Coffee Girls; she was a member of the |
11 |
| Greenfield United Methodist Church for 57 years; and she |
12 |
| enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening, and watching the |
13 |
| life activities of her children and grandchildren; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her |
15 |
| brothers, Billy Shields and Russ Shields, Jr.; her |
16 |
| brother-in-law, Don Luketich; and her sister-in-law, Marjorie |
17 |
| Shields; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Brenda Bishop is survived by her children, |
19 |
| Dean(o), Jr., Russell (Lisa), Dan (Becky), David (Emily), Nora, |
20 |
| and Nathan (Amy); her fourteen grandchildren, Nick, Josh, |
21 |
| Michael, Kyle, Kristen, Trey, Elizabeth, David, Megan, Austin, |
22 |
| Daniel, Jennifer, Claire, and Matthew; her sister, Barbara |
23 |
| Luketich; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
4 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Brenda Bishop; and be it |
5 |
| further
|
6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 |
| presented to the family of Brenda Bishop as a symbol of our |
8 |
| sincere sympathy.
