| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Dr. Julius S. Newman of Aurora, who |
4 |
| passed away on April 23, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman was born on July 7, 1926 in |
6 |
| Chicago; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman served in the United States |
8 |
| Armed Forces during World War II; he was the recipient of the |
9 |
| Purple Heart and helped liberate a concentration camp in |
10 |
| Poland; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman attended the University of |
12 |
| Illinois and attended his medical residency at Edward Hines, |
13 |
| Jr. VA Hospital; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman practiced internal medicine in |
15 |
| Aurora until he transitioned into an administrative position at |
16 |
| Copley Hospital; as VP of Medical Affairs and Continuing |
17 |
| Medical Education (CME), he was instrumental in expanding the |
18 |
| Copley community through cultivation of medical personnel and |
19 |
| the building of the new Rush-Copley Medical Center; during his |
20 |
| period of semi-retirement until January 2009, he continued his |
21 |
| role of managing the CME program and his life-long commitment |

| to medicine and learning; he had great dedication to |
2 |
| Rush-Copley and was lovingly referred to as "Dr. Copley"; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman was a dedicated member of the |
4 |
| Aurora community; he served several terms as Temple President |
5 |
| and choir director of Temple B'Nai Israel; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman was an avid golfer; he also |
7 |
| traveled the world with his wife and often with his in-laws, |
8 |
| Zalmon and Anne Goldsmith; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman was preceded in death by his |
10 |
| loving wife of 60 years, Gail; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Julius Newman is survived by his children, Jay |
12 |
| Newman, Bonnie Newman Goren, and Elizabeth Newman; his |
13 |
| grandchild, Samantha Newman; and his brother, Ed Newman; |
14 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
16 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
17 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Julius S. Newman; |
18 |
| and be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 |
| presented to the family of Dr. Julius Newman as an expression |
