| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Duane Randall of Godfrey, who passed away |
| 4 |
| on June 9, 2009; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Duane Randall was born on April 27, 1946 in Alton; |
| 6 |
| his parents were Duane Sr. and Rosemary (Miller) Randall; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Duane Randall spent his childhood in various |
| 8 |
| places, including Caracas, Venezuela and Moab, Utah; he moved |
| 9 |
| back to Alton in 1960 and played varsity sports at Marquette |
| 10 |
| Catholic High School; he graduated from Alton Senior High |
| 11 |
| School in 1964; following in his father's footsteps, he |
| 12 |
| graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1970 with |
| 13 |
| a bachelor's degree in business administration; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Duane Randall married his high school sweetheart, |
| 15 |
| Nancy Ann Cannedy, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton on |
| 16 |
| June 21, 1968; in the following years, Mr. Randall and his |
| 17 |
| family lived in a number of cities in the Midwest and in Miami, |
| 18 |
| Florida; during this time, he worked in several industries, |
| 19 |
| including medical and office equipment sales; Mr. and Mrs. |
| 20 |
| Randall returned to the Alton area with their three children in |
| 21 |
| 1987; and
|

| WHEREAS, Duane Randall worked for more than 20 years in the |
| 2 |
| aviation industry, building a successful entrepreneurial |
| 3 |
| career; he was often accompanied by his wife as he traveled and |
| 4 |
| the two formed close friendships with his associates throughout |
| 5 |
| Europe and Asia; he and his son Joseph founded an aircraft |
| 6 |
| fabric company, AviorTex, in 2007; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Duane Randall's uncle, Louis Miller, helped Duane |
| 8 |
| procure a job as a caddie at Lockhaven Country Club, which |
| 9 |
| began his lifelong interest in golf; as a member of Lockhaven, |
| 10 |
| Mr. Randall's contribution to and enthusiasm for the club were |
| 11 |
| unparalleled; he and his wife built a home overlooking the golf |
| 12 |
| course in 1992; he also served on the board of Lockhaven from |
| 13 |
| 1998 to 2004, including a term as president from 2003 to 2004; |
| 14 |
| following his term as president, he became a board member of |
| 15 |
| the Lockhaven Country Club Development Corporation; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, In 2001, Duane Randall aided his daughter |
| 17 |
| Elisabeth in opening a coffee shop on Broadway in Alton, which |
| 18 |
| initiated his involvement in realizing the great potential of |
| 19 |
| the downtown Alton area; he first converted the Laura Building |
| 20 |
| into river-view lofts and commercial spaces overlooking the |
| 21 |
| Mississippi River, with him and his wife occupying the top |
| 22 |
| floor; assisted by his daughter Jennifer and business partner |
| 23 |
| Penelope Schmidt, he continued these efforts at the Mississippi |
| 24 |
| Lime building, now known as the Mississippi Landing; and
|

| WHEREAS, Duane Randall was preceded in death by his parents |
| 2 |
| and his sister, Ann Canaday; and
|
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, Duane Randall is survived by his devoted wife, |
| 4 |
| Nancy; his children, Jennifer and her husband, Steven Papin, |
| 5 |
| Joseph and his wife, Rebecca, and Elisabeth; his grandchildren, |
| 6 |
| Emily, Joseph, and Betsy Papin; his sisters, Louise Jehle and |
| 7 |
| her husband, Jackson, and Martha Black and her husband, Robert; |
| 8 |
| his brother-in-law, Jon Cannedy; a large extended family, |
| 9 |
| including Pat Kane and his wife, Dottie; and many beloved |
| 10 |
| cousins, nieces, and nephews; and |
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Duane Randall will be remembered by all who knew |
| 12 |
| and loved him as a business mentor, a wonderful |
| 13 |
| conversationalist and storyteller, and a dedicated golfer; |
| 14 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
| 16 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 17 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Duane Randall; and be it |
| 18 |
| further
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 |
| presented to the family of Duane Randall as an expression of |
| 21 |
| our sympathy.
