SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Rudolph "Bud" Rolando of Farmington, who
4 passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on July 22, 1924, in Farmington, to
6 John and Alma Maria (Lenzi) Rolando; he married Kathleen (Kay)
7 R. Settles on February 10, 1952, in Farmington; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He worked as a coal miner at the Midland Coal
9 Company, Middlegrove mine, Truax Traer mine in Fiatt, and
10 Consolidated Coal Company mine near Norris; he loved operating
11 bulldozers; he and his co-workers referred to themselves as
12 Catskinners, referring to the Caterpillar equipment they
13 operated; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was a World War II United States Army veteran,
15 serving as a sergeant with the 70th Division in the European
16 Theater of operations; he saw combat during the Battle of the
17 Bulge and was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the
18 Bronze Star, among other decorations; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was an avid sports fan, but was especially fond
20 of track and field, in which he was a participant during his
21 days at Farmington High School; he followed the sport for many

1 years, traveling across the State to attend various track
2 meets; for over 30 years he was an avid golfer and member of
3 the Canton Country Club, and in later years when he could no
4 longer play, he enjoyed following the sport; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He enjoyed gardening; he was a member of the
6 United Mineworkers of America, St. Matthew's Catholic Church in
7 Farmington, where he attended faithfully, the Farmington
8 American Legion Post 140, and the 70th Division Trailblazers;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and one
11 brother, John; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Rudolph "Bud" Rolando is survived by his wife,
13 Kay; his son, Anthony V. (Diana); his grandson, Matthew C.
14 (Leah) Rolando; his pride and joy, his new great-grandson,
15 Carter William Rolando; and his sisters, Gloria McKeever,
16 Barbara (Don) Wright, and Joanne (William) Greenfield;
17 therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20 his family and friends, the passing of Rudolph "Bud" Rolando;
21 and be it further
