SENATE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3
learn of the death of
Mary Jane Haggerty of Skokie, who passed 
4
away on December 28, 2008; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty was raised in Rogers Park; she 
6
attended the Marywood Academy for Girls in Evanston; a product 
7
of the 1960s, she was swept up by the peace movement; she 
8
traveled to Nicaragua several times during and after college; 
9
and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty served as the housing action 
11
program director for the non-profit Rogers Park Community 
12
Council for 12 years; during her tenure as program director, 
13
she made it her job to ensure good living conditions for the 
14
poor of Rogers Park by pursuing slumlords in various court 
15
proceedings; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty is survived by her mother, 
17
Jane, and her brother, John; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Mary Jane Haggerty will be remembered by all who 
19
knew and loved her as a woman whose broad vision and inclusive 
20
sense of the world endeared her to everyone she met; therefore, 
21
be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL 
2
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
3
her family and friends, the passing of Mary Jane Haggerty; and 
4
be it further

  
5
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6
presented to the family of Mary Jane Haggerty as an expression 
7
of our sympathy.
