| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Russell Hudlin of East St. Louis, who |
4 |
| passed away on June 21, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin was born on November 17, 1928 in |
6 |
| Hot Springs, Arkansas; he was an alumnus of Lincoln High School |
7 |
| of East St. Louis and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin served his country with pride and |
9 |
| distinction as a lieutenant in the United States Army during |
10 |
| the Korean War; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin was employed as a pharmacist; he |
12 |
| was also a long-time businessman, owning and operating retail |
13 |
| stores in both East St. Louis and Centreville for 50-plus years |
14 |
| before his retirement; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin was an active member of his |
16 |
| community; he was an active participant on numerous |
17 |
| not-for-profit boards, including St. Mary's Hospital and the |
18 |
| Jefferson National Park Expansion boards; he was also a past |
19 |
| president of both the East St. Louis Chamber of Commerce and |
20 |
| the Kiwanis Club of East St. Louis; he was a steadfast defender |
21 |
| of his city and always looked for ways to positively impact the |

| quality of life in his community; and
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin was an avid hockey fan and a |
3 |
| long-time St. Louis Blues season ticket holder; he was also an |
4 |
| experienced stone mason, a craft he learned from his father and |
5 |
| passed onto his sons; he also enjoyed building structures of |
6 |
| stone and marble, spending time with his family, and traveling; |
7 |
| and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin was preceded in death by his |
9 |
| father, Edward Warrington Hudlin; his mother, Myrtle Hudlin; |
10 |
| his sister, Lucille McClelland, Ph.D.; and his brothers, |
11 |
| Warrington Hudlin and Lt. Col. Irving C. Hudlin, Ph.D.; and |
12 |
| WHEREAS, Russell Hudlin is survived by his wife, Jeto |
13 |
| Hudlin; his children, Russell C. Hudlin Jr., Gerald D. (Ella) |
14 |
| Hudlin, and Katheryn M. Shoubaki; his grandchildren, Darrell |
15 |
| Conner, Shaadi Shoubaki, and Audrey Hudlin, his |
16 |
| great-grandchild, Cierra Mitchell; and his brothers, Edward |
17 |
| (Helen) Hudlin, Ph.D. and Richard Hudlin; his brother-in-law, |
18 |
| Harbans Manhas; his sister-in-law, Jaswant (Surbjeet) Gandhi; |
19 |
| and his many other family members and friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
