SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of William Cassin of Oak Park, who passed
4 away on June 30, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born June 22, 1923; he was a graduate of
6 Fenwick High School and attended Notre Dame University before
7 World War II; he was an avid member of the Oak Park Recreation
8 Department's Aviation Club and looked to Charles Lindbergh as
9 his lifelong hero; and
 
10     WHEREAS, William A. Cassin was a veteran of the United
11 States Army, serving in World War II; he served in
12 reconnaissance with the 20th Armored Division in France and
13 helped to liberate the Dachau concentration camp; for his
14 heroic service he received the Bronze Star; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He, along with his wife, was a longtime member and
16 supporter of The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park;
17 together they established the Hemingway Museum and worked to
18 restore Hemingway's birthplace; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He and his wife, Virginia, were married for 64
20 years; and

1     WHEREAS, In 2002 he received the Carl S. Winters Community
2 Service Award from the Oak Park Rotary Club; and
 
3     WHEREAS, He was a commercial photographer and later the
4 photo editor for major encyclopedias, including the
5 Encyclopedia Britannica and Laidlaw Publishing; he was an avid
6 outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and camping alongside his
7 family; and
 
8     WHEREAS, William Cassin was the devoted husband of
9 Virginia, nee Robie; the loving father of Michael (Barbara),
10 Patrick, Sharon Frame, Sheila (Richard) MacLaughlin, Timothy,
11 Sean, Brian (Donna), and Kieran (Jeri); the beloved grandfather
12 of 20; and the great-grandfather of 5; he was the dear brother
13 of Phyllis (James) Donahoe, Patricia (Michael) Graft, and David
14 (Sara) Cassin; the fond brother-in-law of William (Sally)
15 Robie; and the cherished uncle and the friend of many;
16 therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 his family and friends, the passing of William Cassin; and be
20 it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of William Cassin as a symbol of our
