SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3
learn of the death of Corporal Casey Hills of Salem, who was 
4
killed in the line of duty while serving in Iraq, on June 24, 
5
2009; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Casey Hills was born on December 21, 1985 in 
7
Springfield to Mark and Tammy Hills; and
 
8
    WHEREAS, Casey Hills served as a Corporal in the United 
9
States Individual Ready Reserves and was assigned to the 100th 
10
Battalion, 442nd Infantry Charlie Company, a part of the Hawaii 
11
Army National Guard's 29th Brigade Combat Team; he was a former 
12
Illinois National Guardsman; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, He was described by his fellow soldiers as having 
14
a quiet demeanor, a hard work ethic, and a commitment to the 
15
platoon, making him a platoon favorite; he had volunteered to 
16
take the place of a fellow soldier who was taking the test to 
17
become a U.S. citizen at the time of his accident; and

    WHEREAS, Corporal Casey Hills is survived by his parents, 
19
Mark and Tammy Hills; his grandparents, Billy and Violet Hills; 
20
his brother, Blake Hills; his sister, Danielle Hills; his 
21
niece, Lorelei Hills; and his nephew, Briar Hills; therefore,

    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL 
3
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
4
his family, friends, and a grateful nation, the passing of 
5
Corporal Casey Hills; and be it further

 
6
    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Corporal Casey Hills 
7
and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him 
8
making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
9
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10
presented to the family of Corporal Casey Hills as a symbol of 
11
our sincere sympathy.
