| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert F. Hillenbrand of Naperville, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on July 24, 2009; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert F. Hillenbrand was born March 5, 1925, in | ||||||
6 | Woodcliff, New Jersey, to immigrant parents; he was a 1950 | ||||||
7 | graduate of North Central College with a Bachelor of Arts | ||||||
8 | degree and received a Master of Arts degree from the University | ||||||
9 | of Chicago and an additional graduate degree, the Advanced | ||||||
10 | Certificate, from the University of Illinois; he was a member | ||||||
11 | of the Phi Delta Kappa professional fraternity; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hillenbrand taught in the Bensenville and | ||||||
13 | Elmhurst elementary schools, followed by 29 years as an | ||||||
14 | elementary school administrator in Naperville School District | ||||||
15 | 203; he was an elementary teaching principal in St. Charles and | ||||||
16 | was a principal of four Naperville schools; in his retirement, | ||||||
17 | he acted as a hearing officer for 15 years; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, He was the past president of the DuPage Elementary | ||||||
19 | Principals Association, and a member of the City Plan | ||||||
20 | Commission and the Naperville Sesquicentennial Committee; he | ||||||
21 | maintained a strong interest in the future of North Central | ||||||
22 | College and had deep connections with the Community United |

| |||||||
1 | Methodist Church; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hillenbrand was an avid reader and | ||||||
3 | storyteller, and led discussions for his church class' book | ||||||
4 | group, as well as sponsoring "Books Between Bites" at the | ||||||
5 | Community United Methodist Church; he was a World War II Army | ||||||
6 | veteran, entering the army upon graduation in 1943, from | ||||||
7 | Mooseheart Academy in Batavia; he served with the Tenth | ||||||
8 | Mountain Division, earning the Bronze Star for meritorious | ||||||
9 | service in combat near Gaggio Montano, Italy; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and | ||||||
11 | sister; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years and | ||||||
13 | a former Naperville kindergarten teacher, Betty (nee | ||||||
14 | Jacobson); his daughters, Ashleyann (Ann Clare) Hillenbrand | ||||||
15 | Carlson and Martha Beth Hillenbrand Jones; and his | ||||||
16 | grandchildren, Daniel Warren Jones and Katherine Hillary | ||||||
17 | Jones; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
20 | his family and friends, the passing of Robert Hillenbrand; and | ||||||
21 | be it further
