2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
William T. Jensen III; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III came into this world on August | ||||||
5 | 2, 1927; he was raised in Northbrook; at the age of 12, he | ||||||
6 | joined the Boy Scouts of America, where he ultimately earned | ||||||
7 | the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting's highest honor; throughout | ||||||
8 | his life, he persistently abided by the Scouting pledge of "on | ||||||
9 | my honor, I will do my best"; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III served his country with pride | ||||||
11 | and distinction in the United States Army as an announcer for | ||||||
12 | Armed Forces Radio in Vienna, Austria; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In 1948, William Jensen III began his career at | ||||||
14 | Methode Electronics; during this time, he also attended | ||||||
15 | Northwestern University; during his tenure at Methode | ||||||
16 | Electronics, he ascended the ranks, ultimately becoming | ||||||
17 | Vice-President, President, and Chairman of the Board of | ||||||
18 | Directors; his inventions, direction, leadership, and wisdom | ||||||
19 | were an inspiration to his colleagues for more than 56 years; | ||||||
20 | and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III and his wife, Peg, later made |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | their home in Wayne, where they lived on their beloved Deerwood | ||||||
2 | Farm; much of their time was devoted to conservation projects, | ||||||
3 | including the re-establishment of a native Illinois prairie and | ||||||
4 | the creation of a pond to preserve, conserve, and restore | ||||||
5 | native flora and fauna, complete with habitats for birds, | ||||||
6 | butterflies, deer, and frogs; Mr. Jensen also served as a Kane | ||||||
7 | County Frog Monitor for Chicago Wilderness; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III supported the re-establishment | ||||||
9 | of native prairie plants at the Village of Wayne parks known as | ||||||
10 | Misty's Meadow and Wayne Prairie Garden; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III was a long-time member of the | ||||||
12 | Wayne-DuPage Hunt, where he hosted the much-anticipated | ||||||
13 | Stirrup Cup; he was also an avid supporter of equestrian | ||||||
14 | activities, generously allowing the use of Deerwood Farm for | ||||||
15 | equestrian use; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III was responsible for the | ||||||
17 | restoration and preservation of numerous historic buildings in | ||||||
18 | Barrington and Wayne; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III was an active member of his | ||||||
20 | community; he partnered with Wayne Elementary School for | ||||||
21 | numerous educational programs at Deerwood Farm; he donated land | ||||||
22 | to the Village of Wayne Historic and Rural Preservation |

1 | Program; he granted numerous conservation easements; he also | ||||||
2 | drove his 1947 Deerwood Farm Fire Truck in the annual Village | ||||||
3 | Flag Day Parade; in recognition of his many contributions to | ||||||
4 | the Village of Wayne, he and his wife were recognized as Wayne | ||||||
5 | Citizens of the Year in 2006; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, William Jensen III further served the Village of | ||||||
7 | Wayne by holding the unpaid position of Village Trustee, | ||||||
8 | beginning in December of 2000; he was eventually reelected 3 | ||||||
9 | times, most recently in April of 2009; during his tenure, he | ||||||
10 | served as chairman of the Finance and Long Range Plan | ||||||
11 | Committees; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Sadly, William Jensen III recently passed away | ||||||
13 | from this life to the next; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
16 | his family and friends, the passing of William T. Jensen III | ||||||
17 | and honor him for his many contributions to industry, | ||||||
18 | conservation, and historic preservation in the State of | ||||||
19 | Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of William Jensen III as an expression | ||||||
22 | of our sympathy.
