| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Daniel V. "Louie" McWethy, Jr., of | ||||||
4 | Aurora, who passed away on October 2, 2009; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born in Aurora October 26, 1918 and was a | ||||||
6 | lifelong resident; he graduated from West Aurora High School in | ||||||
7 | 1936 and the University of Illinois in 1940; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He enlisted in the Marine Corps November 1, 1940 | ||||||
9 | and was sent to Quantico, Virginia to the 1st Marine Officer | ||||||
10 | Candidates School; after completing the school and graduating | ||||||
11 | as a 2nd Lieutenant in June 1941, he was assigned to the 8th | ||||||
12 | Marine Regiment at Camp Elliot in San Diego, California on | ||||||
13 | January 6, 1942; he was sent with the 2nd Marine Brigade to | ||||||
14 | American Samoa; following Samoa, he was engaged in the Battles | ||||||
15 | of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian; his unit was | ||||||
16 | awarded two Presidential Citations and the South Pacific Medal | ||||||
17 | with four Battle Stars; he received the Purple Heart for wounds | ||||||
18 | suffered on Saipan and returned to the United States in 1944 | ||||||
19 | and was assigned to staff and command school at Quantico; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, After completing school he was assigned to | ||||||
21 | Headquarters Marines Corps, Washington, DC, where he met his | ||||||
22 | wife to be, Lillian G. "Elgie" Cavette; they married in March |

1 | of 1945; in August of 1945 he was honorably discharged from the | ||||||
2 | Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel and returned to Aurora with his | ||||||
3 | wife; he joined the McWethy Brothers Insurance Firm and worked | ||||||
4 | there until he retired in 1983; he served on the Boards of | ||||||
5 | Merchants National Bank for 35 years, Copley Hospital for 35 | ||||||
6 | years, and Sunnymere for 33 years; he was a member of the | ||||||
7 | Aurora Country Club since 1946; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Elgie; and | ||||||
9 | his parents, Daniel and Nellie McWethy; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Daniel McWethy, Jr. is survived by his daughters, | ||||||
11 | Susan (Charlie) Holt, Sandy (Dave) Ellis, and Sally (Jack) | ||||||
12 | Townsend; his grandchildren, Kristine Whittle, Jamey (Keith) | ||||||
13 | Landry, Kelly (Mike) Samson, Robert (Blanca) Townsend, and | ||||||
14 | Michael (fiancé, Stephanie Savage) Townsend; his | ||||||
15 | great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Alison Landry; and his three | ||||||
16 | sisters, Tycka Ochsenschlager, Suzanne McWethy, and Betty Lou | ||||||
17 | (Dave) Sims; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
20 | his family and friends, the passing of Daniel McWethy, Jr.; and | ||||||
21 | be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
