| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Keith J. Koza of Geneva, who passed away |
4 |
| on September 19, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Keith J. Koza was born July 26, 1952, in Hammond, |
6 |
| Indiana, the son of John and Carol (Bonior) Koza; he resided in |
7 |
| Batavia for most of his childhood and later called Geneva his |
8 |
| home; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, He was a patrol officer for 27 years, serving the |
10 |
| Geneva Police Department; he earned a degree from the Culinary |
11 |
| Institute of America, which he continued to use throughout his |
12 |
| life while cooking for everyone he loved; he began his baking |
13 |
| career from the garage of his home in St. Charles until he |
14 |
| opened his bakery in Geneva, Konfectionary Kreations, which he |
15 |
| operated for one year in 1986; his culinary prowess took over |
16 |
| again when he began Koza Kookin' Pig Roasts in 2003, where he |
17 |
| served the Kane County area for six years, creating the finest |
18 |
| BBQ pork around; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Aurora University with a |
20 |
| criminal justice management certificate; for 8 years he served |
21 |
| as a reserve officer to the Geneva Police Department before he |
22 |
| was hired full-time in June of 1982; during his 27-year service |

| he accomplished a master firearms certification and was a |
2 |
| firearms instructor, evidence technician accident investigator |
3 |
| (ETAI), court liaison officer, and truck enforcement officer; |
4 |
| he also was a non-lethal weapons instructor, and periodically |
5 |
| served as officer in charge (OIC) for the department; he also |
6 |
| served as chairman for the Employee Advisory Committee for many |
7 |
| years; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He was an avid traveler and master cruiser with |
9 |
| his wife and enjoyed the company of his closest friends; during |
10 |
| the fall on Sundays he could be found on the couch, yelling at |
11 |
| the TV, watching the Chicago Bears do their best; on summer |
12 |
| days he was often on his back porch, listening to the Chicago |
13 |
| Cubs, smoking his favorite cigar; he loved to try his hand at |
14 |
| golf whenever he had the chance; he always found ways to keep |
15 |
| busy, whether working on finishing his "mancave" or tending his |
16 |
| garden; his life's motto was to "Live life as you want to live |
17 |
| it."; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, Keith Koza is survived by his wife, Mary |
20 |
| (Collins); his daughter, Katie A. (Mike) Schluter; his son, |
21 |
| Jeffrey K. Koza and his girlfriend Christina Lialios; his |
22 |
| sister, Kim (Ken) Voo; his brother, Mark Koza; his |
23 |
| grandchildren, Kathleen and James Showalter and Isabella Koza; |

| his nephews, Chris Dunn and Tony (Zoe) Dunn; his great-niece |
2 |
| and great-nephew, Lucy and Eli Dunn; his father-in-law and |
3 |
| mother-in-law, Ken and Betty Collins; his brothers-in-law, |
4 |
| Mike (Heather), Mark (Ann), and Matt (Karen) Collins; and his |
5 |
| niece and nephew, Maya and Oscar Collins; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
7 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
8 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Keith Koza; and be it |
9 |
| further
|
10 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
11 |
| presented to the family of Keith J. Koza as a symbol of our |
12 |
| sincere sympathy.
