| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Lyman M. Jensen of Galesburg, who passed |
4 |
| away on October 18, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Lyman Jensen was born on October 12, 1941, in Iron |
6 |
| Mountain, Michigan; he was the son of Russell and Dorothy |
7 |
| (Cole) Jensen; he married Bonnie Olson, who preceded him in |
8 |
| death in 1974; he married Connie L. Rouland Landon on June 22, |
9 |
| 1976, in Galesburg; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Lyman Jensen was an Eagle Scout and the |
11 |
| valedictorian of the Goodman High School Class of 1959; he then |
12 |
| graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, |
13 |
| Michigan in 1964 with a degree in civil engineering; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Lyman Jensen began |
15 |
| working with the Colorado Department of Transportation; he was |
16 |
| hired as a Civil Engineer for the City of Galesburg in 1971 and |
17 |
| was promoted to the position of Director of Public Works in |
18 |
| 1977; he also served 4 terms as the Acting City Manager; he |
19 |
| retired from the City of Galesburg in 2000; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, During his 30 years of dedicated service, Lyman |
21 |
| Jensen was involved with a number of projects for the City of |
|
|

| Galesburg, including the Farnham Street and County Highway 10 |

| Bridges, Linwood Road, Carl Sandburg Drive, the Losey Street |

| Subway, the additional wells at Oquawka, the standby generators |
4 |
| at Oquawka and Galesburg, the purchase and clearance of the |
5 |
| Manyx Property at Lake Storey, the Bike Path around Lake |
6 |
| Storey, and many improvements to Bunker Links; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Lyman Jensen was a member of the Sunrise Rotary |
8 |
| Club, the City of Galesburg Planning Commission, the Railroad |
9 |
| Days Committee, the National Society of Professional Civil |
10 |
| Engineers, the American Public Works Association, the American |
11 |
| Water Works Association, and the Illinois Municipal League |
12 |
| Public Works Committee; he also served as a volunteer for the |
13 |
| United Way, the Chamber Environment Task Force, the Streets and |
14 |
| Highways Committee, Christmas in April, and Adopt-a-Park; he |
15 |
| was the recipient of the Tom Herring Award for his many years |
16 |
| of dedicated community service; and |
17 |
| WHEREAS, Lyman Jensen enjoyed fishing, woodworking, |
18 |
| attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and watching |
19 |
| the Green Bay Packers; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, Lyman Jensen was preceded in death by his sister, |
21 |
| Agnes Cross, and his first wife; and |
22 |
| WHEREAS, Lyman Jensen is survived by his wife, Connie; his |
|

| children, Mrs. Steve (Lori) Dredge, Lana Almaguer, Mrs. Jeff |

| (Sherri) Kremer, and Mike (Lori) Landon; his brother, Norman |

| (Carol) Jensen; his 7 grandchildren; his 2 step-grandchildren; |
4 |
| and 2 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
6 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
7 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Lyman M. Jensen; and be |
8 |
| it further
|
9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 |
| presented to the family of Lyman Jensen as an expression of our |
11 |
| sympathy.
