| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Ruby Butler, who passed away on December |
4 |
| 11, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler was born as "Dear Me" on January 23, |
6 |
| 1926, in Opelika, Alabama; her parents were Offie and Lillie |
7 |
| Pitts; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler was raised with her siblings in Salem, |
9 |
| Alabama; she attended Flint Hill School and later changed her |
10 |
| name to Ruby prior to starting high school; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler accepted Christ at an early age; she |
12 |
| attended Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Salem, Alabama; she |
13 |
| later attended the Greater Rock M.B. Church in Chicago; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler was employed as a domestic worker |
15 |
| during high school; she later married McClain "Frank" Butler |
16 |
| and moved with him to Chicago, where the couple had 4 children; |
17 |
| and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler enjoyed cooking, gardening, and |
19 |
| spending time with her family; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler was preceded in death by her parents; |
2 |
| her husband, McClain; her siblings, Mattie Mae Butler, John |
3 |
| Wesley Pitts, and Benjamin Frederick Pitts; her sons, Charles |
4 |
| and Earl Butler; and her grandson, Winslow Redmond; and |
5 |
| WHEREAS, Ruby Butler is survived by her sisters, Malissie |
6 |
| McCullor, Evergreen Dotson, and Fanniet Means; her daughters, |
7 |
| Lucy (Bobby) Redmond Wright and Juanita (David) Braggs; her |
8 |
| daughters-in-law, Sylvia Butler and Diane Butler; her |
9 |
| grandchildren, Rochelle (Elwin) Simpson, Wynona Redmond, |
10 |
| Frederick (Danielle) Redmond, Jesse Ellebb, Dessie Reynolds, |
11 |
| Kesha Braggs, Charlotte (John Butler Myers, Earl Butler, Dearl |
12 |
| Butler, Wanda Butler, and Lucerinda Butler; and her many |
13 |
| great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; |
14 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
17 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Ruby Butler; and be it |
18 |
| further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 |
| presented to the family of Ruby Butler as an expression of our |
21 |
| sympathy.
