SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Reverend Jodie A. Luster, Jr. of
4 Centreville, who passed away on October 27, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on July 28, 1928 to Jodie A. Luster,
6 Sr. and Adellar Mitchell in Houston, Mississippi; he accepted
7 Christ at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church, under the
8 leadership of Reverend Robinson; he attended Parnell
9 Elementary School and Houston High School; and
 
10     WHEREAS, As a young man he moved to Webster Groves,
11 Missouri, and later Centreville; in 1950 he married Geneva
12 Collins and together they had six children; he was a thirty-one
13 year employee of Hunter Packing Company until his retirement;
14 he was also an automobile salesman, owner of Luster's Car Wash
15 and Luster's Wrecking and Excavating; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He served on the Board of Education in
17 Centreville, as a member of the Centreville Volunteer Fire
18 Department in the 1950s and 1960s, as a Centreville Alderman,
19 and as a member of the Cahokia Water Company Board of Directors
20 for the last eight years; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He was a minister at Calvary Missionary Baptist

1 Church, founded by his father, Jodie Luster, Sr.; he held
2 Saturday morning prayer service no matter what the weather; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Reverend Jodie A. Luster, Jr. is survived by his
4 wife, Geneva; his sons, Flinn (Brenda), Kerry (Susan Swope),
5 Lardez, and Marcus (Connie); his daughters, Sheila (Will)
6 Croom, Tawana (Charlie) Moore, and Renee Givens; his sisters,
7 Elvira Wright, Ruthie Mae (Jasper) Montgomery, and Esteria
8 Thompson; his brothers, Charles Lee (Betty) and Larry (Breck);
9 his godson, Raphal Wright; his twenty-seven grandchildren;
10 forty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
11 cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 his family and friends, the passing of Reverend Jodie A.
15 Luster, Jr.; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Reverend Jodie A. Luster, Jr. as a
18 symbol of our sincere sympathy.
