SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Douglas Alan Brignall of Bartonville, who passed away on December 8, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Alan Brignall was born June 6, 1953, in Canton, to George and Zelda Fawcett Brignall; and

WHEREAS, He was an Illinois Air National Guard veteran, serving from 1971 to 1977; he worked at Caterpillar Inc. for four years before joining the Peoria Fire Department on May 23, 1977; he retired from the Peoria Fire Department as a Battalion Chief on June 6, 2009, after 32 years of service; he was the primary author of the Peoria Fire Department history book, "Peoria Firefighters, A Proud History"; he was a member of the Bartonville Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and he served as the fire chief for the Limestone Fire District for one year; and

WHEREAS, He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears; he enjoyed fishing at the family retreat at Star Lake in Minnesota with family and friends and also enjoyed high school and college basketball; and

WHEREAS, Douglas was preceded in death by his father and both sets of grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Brignall is survived by his mother, Zelda Brignall; his son, Doug Closen; his daughter, Breanna Brignall; his daughter, Gwendolyn Brignall; his son, Liam Brignall; his grandson, Jordan Closen; his brother, Steven (Mi) Brignall; his sister, Georgia (Kevin) Mason; his nieces, Elizabeth Brignall, Jessica Mason, and Jennifer Mason; and his nephew, Joseph Brignall; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Douglas Brignall; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Douglas Brignall as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
