| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Mercerline Dye of East St. Louis, who |
4 |
| passed away on January 12, 2010; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on September 12, 1952 in Saint Louis, |
6 |
| Missouri, to Charles and Betty Pettus and was lovingly called |
7 |
| "Sugar Puddin"; she graduated from East St. Louis Lincoln |
8 |
| Senior High School in the top 5% of the Class of 1970; she was |
9 |
| one of the first students enrolled in the Demonstration Class |
10 |
| in English for the State of Illinois, a member of the National |
11 |
| Honor Society, and a charter member of the AKA Pearls; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human |
13 |
| Services from Southern Illinois University; she entered State |
14 |
| Community College and attended an accelerated nursing program; |
15 |
| she became an R.N. and worked at Home Health Care, CMC, Barnes |
16 |
| Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, and St. Elizabeth's Hospital |
17 |
| before retiring in 1988; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, She married Calvin Mercerline in 1973; she enjoyed |
19 |
| dancing, shopping, and "cooking at midnight"; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and was |
21 |
| baptized on October 15, 1967 under the pastorate of Reverend |
