| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Jack G. Wallenda Sr. of Chicago, who |
4 |
| passed away on November 21, 2009; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on April 2, 1926; he was married to |
6 |
| the late Stella Wallenda and was the loving father of seven |
7 |
| children and the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and |
8 |
| eight great-grandchildren; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, During World War II, he served honorably and with |
10 |
| distinction in the United States Army under the command of |
11 |
| General Douglas MacArthur during the Philippines campaign; |
12 |
| during the liberation of the Philippines Archipelago, the 7th |
13 |
| Infantry Division was responsible for the liberation of |
14 |
| thousands of American prisoners of war and freedom for the |
15 |
| people of the Philippines from Japanese hegemony; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, While serving as a medium tank driver with the |
17 |
| Army's 7th Infantry, he was awarded the Philippine Liberation |
18 |
| Ribbon and the Asiatic Theater Campaign Medal; he was honorably |
19 |
| discharged from the Army on November 15, 1946; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, After the war he joined the Chicago Police |
21 |
| Department and rose to the rank of Detective in Area 2 |
