1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Dr. John "Rocky" White of Decatur, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 18, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White served as chairman of the | ||||||
6 | Department of Surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur and | ||||||
7 | served on the hospital's board of directors; his career at St. | ||||||
8 | Mary's began on July 21, 1990 and included the role as | ||||||
9 | president of the hospital's medical staff from 2006 to 2008; in | ||||||
10 | addition to his position at St. Mary's, he provided trauma | ||||||
11 | surgical care to several area hospitals, including Decatur | ||||||
12 | Memorial, Pana Community Hospital, John Warner Hospital in | ||||||
13 | Clinton, and the Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana; he | ||||||
14 | was also the founder of Surgical Specialists of Central | ||||||
15 | Illinois and established offices for the organization in | ||||||
16 | Decatur and Champaign; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White was a member of numerous | ||||||
18 | professional medical societies and was elected to consecutive | ||||||
19 | terms as president of the Macon County Medical Society; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White took particular interest in his | ||||||
21 | role on the WSOY-AM (1340) radio program "Health Styles" with | ||||||
22 | host Kelly Hazenfield; he never missed a Tuesday evening show |

1 | and enjoyed fielding listeners' questions about present and | ||||||
2 | future medical procedures; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White participated in the "Real Men Wear | ||||||
4 | Pink" campaign to support breast cancer awareness every October | ||||||
5 | for several years; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White was an avid private pilot who | ||||||
7 | volunteered his airplane and pilot services to Kansas | ||||||
8 | City-based Angel Flight Central and Air Lifeline Pilots in | ||||||
9 | Peoria; he was an active member of the Decatur community and | ||||||
10 | was an avid supporter of Little League baseball; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White was preceded in death by his | ||||||
12 | father, the Honorable John L. White, and his mother, Theresa M. | ||||||
13 | White, Ph.D.; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White is survived by his wife, Leslie | ||||||
15 | (nee Fenner); his son, John "Jack" White; his sister, Joyce | ||||||
16 | (Smith); his brother, Joseph (Christine); his brothers-in-law, | ||||||
17 | Earl (Faith), Ray (Barbara), and Brian; and his many nieces and | ||||||
18 | nephews; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dr. John White will be remembered by all who knew | ||||||
20 | and loved him as a wonderful and dedicated doctor who devoted | ||||||
21 | great time and energy toward helping others; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | his family and friends, the passing of Dr. John "Rocky" White; | ||||||
4 | and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Dr. John White as an expression of | ||||||
7 | our sympathy.
