2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James T. Sweeney of Crest Hill, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 1, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born October 8, 1945, and married Charlene | ||||||
6 | Hanus on August 27, 1977 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in | ||||||
7 | Joliet; he was an avid reader and air show enthusiast; he | ||||||
8 | enjoyed vacationing in the Smoky Mountains and visiting Army, | ||||||
9 | Air Force, and Navy military bases; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, He was retired from the United States Army, | ||||||
11 | serving in Vietnam from September 28, 1966 thru November 27, | ||||||
12 | 1967; February 16, 1968 thru May 12, 1968; and December 11, | ||||||
13 | 1969 thru November 15, 1970; he also served in Indochina and | ||||||
14 | Korea; he proudly served with the 1st Cavalry Division, 101st | ||||||
15 | Airborne Division, and 1st Aviation Brigade; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 | ||||||
17 | Silver Service Star; Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, | ||||||
18 | National Defense Service Medal; 3 O/S Bars; Air Medal (5th | ||||||
19 | Award); Aircraft Crewman Badge; Army Commendation Medal; | ||||||
20 | Meritorious Unit Citation; Bronze Star Medal; Good Conduct | ||||||
21 | Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); Marksman | ||||||
22 | Badge with Rifle Bar (M-16); VSM; NDSM; Air Medal Aircraft |

| |||||||
1 | Crewman Badge; VCM; 2 O/S Bars; and MM (Rifle M-14); and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, He was employed by Molex as a Quality Assurance | ||||||
3 | Technician and The Labor Record as a Bookkeeper; he was a | ||||||
4 | member of the V.F.W. Cantigny Post 367, 1st Cavalry Division, | ||||||
5 | 101st Airborne Division, Association of the United States Army, | ||||||
6 | and Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Association; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and | ||||||
8 | Dorothy (nee Jay) Sweeney; his sister, Jean Honig; his brother, | ||||||
9 | Henry "Hank" Sweeney; his brothers-in-law, Robert Honig Sr. and | ||||||
10 | Wolfgang "Rick" Short; his nephews, Sean Sweeney and Robert | ||||||
11 | Honig Jr.; his father-in-law Charles Hanus Sr.; and his | ||||||
12 | mother-in-law, Ann Hanus; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, James T. Sweeney is survived by his loving wife of | ||||||
14 | 32 years, Charlene (nee Hanus); his daughter, Jennifer (Michael | ||||||
15 | Yurkovich) Sweeney; his son, James Sweeney Jr.; his beloved | ||||||
16 | canine companions, Tiffany, Dixie, and Tucker; his two sisters, | ||||||
17 | Joyce (Raymond) Matkovic and Mary Ellen Short; his | ||||||
18 | sister-in-law, Mary Jean Sweeney and brother-in-law, Charles | ||||||
19 | (Christina) Hanus Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |

1 | his family and friends, the passing of James T. Sweeney; and be | ||||||
2 | it further

3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
