| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Carl R. Hansen of Mount Prospect; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Carl Hansen joined the United States Army in 1944, |
| 5 |
| where he rose to the rank of first lieutenant and then major |
| 6 |
| while in the U.S. Army Reserves; after World War II, he served |
| 7 |
| in Germany, where he met his late wife, Christl; in 1952, he |
| 8 |
| returned to the United States and earned his MBA from the |
| 9 |
| University of Chicago; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Carl Hansen served as the 15th District |
| 11 |
| commissioner of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from |
| 12 |
| 1974 to 2006; he was well known as the sole voice of dissent on |
| 13 |
| numerous issues before the Board and was the second-longest |
| 14 |
| serving Cook County Board member; he also served as an Elk |
| 15 |
| Grove Township committeeman for 40 years; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, After his retirement, Carl Hansen served as an |
| 17 |
| active consultant on various civic movements, including the |
| 18 |
| Viking Ship Restoration Committee in Geneva; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, During his years in local politics, Carl Hansen |
| 20 |
| was instrumental in bringing a Cook County branch courthouse to |
| 21 |
| Rolling Meadows; he also called for juvenile court system |
