SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Carl R. Hansen of Mount Prospect; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen joined the United States Army in 1944, where he rose to the rank of first lieutenant and then major while in the U.S. Army Reserves; after World War II, he served in Germany, where he met his late wife, Christl; in 1952, he returned to the United States and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen served as the 15th District commissioner of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1974 to 2006; he was well known as the sole voice of dissent on numerous issues before the Board and was the second-longest serving Cook County Board member; he also served as an Elk Grove Township committeeman for 40 years; and

WHEREAS, After his retirement, Carl Hansen served as an active consultant on various civic movements, including the Viking Ship Restoration Committee in Geneva; and

WHEREAS, During his years in local politics, Carl Hansen was instrumental in bringing a Cook County branch courthouse to Rolling Meadows; he also called for juvenile court system reform and pushed for county hospitals to go after non-receivables collection from those who are able to pay; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen enjoyed playing chess, tennis, skiing, and traveling; he was also extremely patriotic and a world history buff, especially when it came to his Danish heritage; and

WHEREAS, Carl Hansen is survived by his son and granddaughter; his sister; his nephew and nieces; and his half-brother; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Carl R. Hansen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carl Hansen as an expression of our sympathy.
