SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Melvin Simms Sr., who passed away on
4 February 5, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Melvin Simms Sr. was born on November 26, 1945, in
6 Birmingham, Alabama; his parents were the late Laura Hutcherson
7 and Bonnie Simms; he was raised by the late John and Alberta
8 Springer; he married Shirley Ann Wells on January 13, 1973; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Melvin Simms Sr. accepted Christ at an early age
10 and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Edenborn,
11 Pennsylvania; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In 1963, Melvin Simms Sr. graduated from German
13 Township Senior High School; in 1966, he joined the United
14 States Army, where he served his country as a cook until he
15 received his honorable discharge in February of 1968; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Melvin Simms Sr. was an employee of the Ford Motor
17 Company from 1968 until his retirement in 2005, after 37 years
18 of dedicated service; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Melvin Simms Sr. was preceded in death by his
20 brothers, William Simms and Richard Hutcherson, and his son,

1 Melvin Simms Jr.; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Melvin Simms Sr. is survived by his wife, Shirley;
3 his daughters, Sherri Wells-Miller, Karen Wells-McGregory
4 (Fabian), Keyarra "Tudy" Clarett, and Aishia P. Simms; his son,
5 Craig Parham; his grandchildren, Sheree, Dynisha, Sierra, and
6 Calib; his brothers, Joe "Bobby" Hutcherson and Larry
7 Hutcherson; his sister, Betty; and his many other relatives and
8 friends; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Melvin Simms Sr. will be remembered by all who
10 knew and loved him as a kind, soft-spoken, and wise man whose
11 love for his family and friends was unmatched; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 his family and friends, the passing of Melvin Simms Sr.; and be
15 it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Melvin Simms Sr. as an expression of
18 our sympathy.
