2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Michael G. Lord of Pittsfield, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on February 17, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Michael Lord was born on October 2, 1952, in | ||||||
6 | Oceanside, California; he was the son of Vernon L. and Jean S. | ||||||
7 | Langdon Lord; he married Phyllis Pearson on October 6, 1973, at | ||||||
8 | the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Michael Lord graduated from Pittsfield High | ||||||
10 | School in 1970; after graduation, he joined the United States | ||||||
11 | Navy, serving with the United States Navy Ceremonial Guard from | ||||||
12 | 1970 to 1974; during his tenure with the Ceremonial Guard, Mike | ||||||
13 | demonstrated superior close-order rifle skills and was | ||||||
14 | assigned to the Silent Drill Team, performing spectacular | ||||||
15 | exhibitions throughout the Washington, D.C. region; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, After his time in the military, Michael Lord | ||||||
17 | returned to his hometown of Pittsfield, where he served as a | ||||||
18 | deacon and taught the junior high Sunday school class at the | ||||||
19 | First Baptist Church of Pittsfield; he then began his career | ||||||
20 | with the Pittsfield City Police Department, where he later | ||||||
21 | served as a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Charlie Cheek; he was | ||||||
22 | also elected to serve as Pike County Sheriff and Pike County |

1 | Coroner from December of 1986 to November of 1998; from | ||||||
2 | December of 1998 until April of 2007, he served on the Pike | ||||||
3 | County Board; on March 4, 2002, he joined the Illinois | ||||||
4 | Secretary of State Police as an investigator; he was employed | ||||||
5 | by the Illinois Secretary of State Police at the time of his | ||||||
6 | passing; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Michael Lord was a member of the Pittsfield | ||||||
8 | American Legion Post 152, the Pittsfield Fire Department, the | ||||||
9 | Illinois Sheriff's Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, | ||||||
10 | and the Pike County Democratic Party; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Michael Lord enjoyed spending time with his family | ||||||
12 | and co-workers, the outdoors, golfing, and his black Labrador | ||||||
13 | retriever, Molly; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Michael Lord was preceded in death by his father, | ||||||
15 | Vernon; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Michael Lord is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his | ||||||
17 | daughter, Sarah Anne Lord; his son, Micah Lord; his mother, | ||||||
18 | Jean Lord; his brother, Mark Lord; his nephews and niece, Doug | ||||||
19 | and Brock Lord, Dean Pearson, and Carrie Bradshaw; his many | ||||||
20 | cousins; and his mother and father in-law, Russell and Phyla | ||||||
21 | Pearson; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | his family and friends, the passing of Michael G. Lord; and be | ||||||
4 | it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Michael Lord as an expression of our | ||||||
7 | sympathy.
