| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Mary Eloise Cockrum, nee Seymour, of |
4 |
| Belleville, who passed away on February 19, 2010; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was born on March 10, 1920, in |
6 |
| Benton; her parents were John Floyd "Happy" Seymour and Hettie |
7 |
| Austin Seymour; she married George Haskell Cockrum in 1940; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was well known as a gifted pianist, |
9 |
| writer, and teacher; she graduated from Southern Illinois |
10 |
| University in Carbondale at the age of 50; she served her |
11 |
| community as a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star; she taught |
12 |
| Sunday school at the Sesser First Baptist Church; she was an |
13 |
| advertising writer and buyer at the Krupnick Advertising Agency |
14 |
| in St. Louis; she also managed a dairy farm and apple orchard |
15 |
| in Sesser for 70 years with her husband; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum was preceded in death by her husband; |
17 |
| her son, John Seymour Cockrum; her parents; her sister, Helen |
18 |
| Faye Riddle (Jack); and her brother, John Seymour (Lois); and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Cockrum and her husband were the parents of |
20 |
| Brenda Faye Cockrum and Georgia Jean Cockrum Costello; her most |
21 |
| cherished moments were spent with her grandchildren, Holly Jean |

| Stanley, and Judy Costello; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
15 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Mary Eloise Cockrum; and |
16 |
| be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 |
| presented to the family of Mary Cockrum as an expression of our |
19 |
| sympathy.
