SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Katherine Beard of Waukegan, who passed away on February 12, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Beard was born July 2, 1927 in Clarksdale, Mississippi; upon her husband's retirement, she settled in Lake County after moving from Fort Sheridan and North Chicago; she retired from the Veterans Hospital in North Chicago as a medical supply clerk; and

WHEREAS, She was a faithful and active member of Shiloh Baptist church, where she served as the President of the Mother's Board and was a member of the Rose Caldwell Circle; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Beard Sr.; her daughter, Gwendolyn Linder; and her brother, Samuel Tyler Sr.; and

WHEREAS, She leaves to mourn and celebrate her life her four daughters, Cheryl Jackson, Patricia Beard, Ouida Beard, and Kathie Warner; her three sons, Adrian G. Beard (Anna), Johnnie Beard, and Kenneth Beard (Jenay); her son-in-law, Otis Linder Sr.; her four beloved stepchildren, Eddie Beard (Pauline), Johnnie Beard, and Essie Washington (Mack); her cousins, Derotha Brown, Willie Johnson, Woodrow Campbell (Sheila), Ava Hugger, Darlene Campbell, Patricia Campbell, and Lynette Burnett; her nieces, Irma Woods, Katherine Scott (Fred), Marilyn Cantrell (Ron), Sherill Johnson (Ernie), Beverly Harding, and Valerie Brown; her nephews, Samuel Tyler Jr. and Kelvin Tyler; her 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; her other friends and relatives; her Shiloh Baptist Church family; and her special friends, Mr. Henry Green and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Petty; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Katherine Beard; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Katherine Beard as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
