| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of George Ellis, Jr., of North Chicago, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 10, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born on June 21, 1934 in Lorman, | ||||||
6 | Mississippi to the late George, Sr., and Julia Ellis; George | ||||||
7 | accepted Christ at an early age at Morningstar Missionary | ||||||
8 | Baptist Church in Lorman, Mississippi; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, He was an active member of Christian Valley | ||||||
10 | Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago; he was ordained as | ||||||
11 | deacon by the late Reverend Clarence Clarke; George served as | ||||||
12 | deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, mission teacher, and | ||||||
13 | on many other ministries; he was also a member of the Male | ||||||
14 | Chorus; he was a faithful and dedicated member who loved | ||||||
15 | serving the Lord and his church; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Upon completion of high school, George served in | ||||||
17 | the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran; he | ||||||
18 | attended DeVry Institute of Technology and the College of Lake | ||||||
19 | County; he was employed as an Electrical Supervisor with the | ||||||
20 | Department of Defense, where he later retired after 25 years of | ||||||
21 | service; shortly after his retirement, George started his own | ||||||
22 | business as an electrical contractor serving many in the Lake |

1 | County area; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, George had a passion for fishing and reading; he | ||||||
3 | was also an avid bowler with local leagues and took great pride | ||||||
4 | in his garden; George loved spending time with his family and | ||||||
5 | he especially enjoyed the family gatherings; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, On December 15, 1962, George married Josie M. | ||||||
7 | Brown, and to this union four children were born; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, George Ellis, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory, | ||||||
10 | his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Josie Ellis; his three | ||||||
11 | sons, Darryl (Donna) Ellis, Todd (Marcia) Ellis, and Eric | ||||||
12 | (Tiffany) Ellis; his daughter, Katherine (Randy) Swopes; his | ||||||
13 | thirteen grandchildren; his sister, Mary (Thomas) Haley; his | ||||||
14 | sister-in-law, Esther Brown; his brothers-in-law, Millard | ||||||
15 | (Carmela) Brown and Norman Brown; his very special niece, Iris | ||||||
16 | Kiles; and other relatives and friends as well as his Christian | ||||||
17 | Valley Church family; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
20 | his family and friends, the passing of George Ellis, Jr.; and | ||||||
21 | be it further
