| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |

| learn of the death of
Eathel Johnson; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Eathel Johnson was born on December 14, 1920, in |
| 5 |
| Shelby, Mississippi; her parents were the late Tommie and |
| 6 |
| Corrine Johnson; she was raised by her great-grandparents, |
| 7 |
| George and Elizabeth Henry; she became a mother as a young |
| 8 |
| woman, then married Allen Spears; she later married L.C. |
| 9 |
| Melton; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Eathel Johnson confessed to Christ in 1932 at the |
| 11 |
| age of 12; she then became a member of Magnolia Baptist Church; |
| 12 |
| and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Eathel Johnson belonged to numerous churches; she |
| 14 |
| eventually found a home at the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist |
| 15 |
| Church in Winstonville, Mississippi, where she was an active |
| 16 |
| member for 50 years and served on the Usher and Mothers Boards; |
| 17 |
| after moving to Chicago, she joined the Greater New Birth |
| 18 |
| Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Timothy |
| 19 |
| Dotson; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Eathel Johnson is survived by her sons, Lamar |
| 21 |
| (Dessie) Johnson, Roy (Doris) Melton, and Donell (Gayle) |
