2 | WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow was born on December 13, 1924, in | ||||||
3 | Oregon, Illinois; he attended school in a one-room school house | ||||||
4 | in Oregon for grades 1 through 8; he then attended Oregon High | ||||||
5 | School; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In 1944, Larry Nedrow was drafted into the United | ||||||
7 | States Army; he then volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps, | ||||||
8 | where he was assigned to the Army Airways Communication System | ||||||
9 | and was stationed on Canton Island in the Pacific and Hickam | ||||||
10 | Field in Hawaii; he also served as a civilian employee of the | ||||||
11 | Army Signal Corps as a Message Center Officer during the winter | ||||||
12 | of 1946-1947; he returned to Aurora in 1947; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In 1949, Larry Nedrow entered the painting trade; | ||||||
14 | he worked for numerous painting contractors before founding | ||||||
15 | Larry Nedrow Decorating in 1956; he owned the business until | ||||||
16 | his retirement in 1992; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow was very active in the painting | ||||||
18 | industry and was adept at labor relations; in 1958, he founded | ||||||
19 | the Aurora Painting Contractors Association; in that same year, | ||||||
20 | he was instrumental in negotiating a State-wide Welfare Plan; | ||||||
21 | these entities stayed in place until 1966, when the Northeast | ||||||
22 | Illinois Chapter of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of |

1 | America (PDCA) was established and the union reorganized into | ||||||
2 | the Painter's District Council No. 30; Larry served as the | ||||||
3 | first President of the new PDCA chapter; he was also very | ||||||
4 | active with the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, where | ||||||
5 | he worked with other contractors and union officials to | ||||||
6 | standardize the apprentice training program; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow was one of the first trustees of the | ||||||
8 | Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall Institute (NIPDI), an | ||||||
9 | industry fund founded in 1976 to serve union painting and | ||||||
10 | drywall taping contractors throughout northern Illinois; Larry | ||||||
11 | served as an NIPDI trustee from December of 1978 to June of | ||||||
12 | 1992; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow married the love of his life, Doris, | ||||||
14 | on August 9, 1957; together, they had 4 children, Jill, Jack, | ||||||
15 | George, and Jodi; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to honor | ||||||
17 | the life of
Larry Nedrow, who passed away on April 4, 1996; | ||||||
18 | therefore, be it | ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
21 | his family and friends, the passing of Larry Nedrow; and be it | ||||||
22 | further

1 | RESOLVED, That we designate the week of April 4, 2010 as | ||||||
2 | Union Painting Contractors Week in the State of Illinois; and | ||||||
3 | be it further | ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Larry Nedrow in appreciation of his | ||||||
6 | dedication and leadership of the Northern Illinois Painting and | ||||||
7 | Drywall Institute.
