| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Purple Day is a global effort dedicated to |
| 3 |
| promoting epilepsy awareness in countries around the world; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological |
| 5 |
| conditions, estimated to affect over 50 million people |
| 6 |
| worldwide and over 3 million people in the United States; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, More than 130,000 Illinoisans suffer from |
| 8 |
| epilepsy; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, One in ten persons will have at least one seizure |
| 10 |
| during his or her lifetime; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The public is often unable to recognize common |
| 12 |
| seizure types, or how to respond with appropriate first aid; |
| 13 |
| and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Purple Day will be celebrated on March 26 annually |
| 15 |
| to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and improve the |
| 16 |
| quality of life for people with epilepsy throughout the country |
| 17 |
| and the world; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
