|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Lucious Hunter, who passed away on March |
4 |
| 30, 2010; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Lucious Hunter was born on April 15, 1928, in |
6 |
| Mound Bayou, Mississippi; his parents were the late Edd and |
7 |
| Minola Hunter; he married Flabe Davis in 1951; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Lucious Hunter grew up in Mississippi, where he |
9 |
| accepted Christ as his personal savior at the New Morning Glory |
10 |
| Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1943; |
11 |
| he later joined the White Plaines M.B. Church in Hushpuckena, |
12 |
| Mississippi; in 1952, he and his family moved from Hushpuckena, |
13 |
| Mississippi to Chicago; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Lucious Hunter retired from the Pyle National |
15 |
| Company as a laborer after 48 years of dedicated service; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, While living in in Hushpuckena, Mississippi, |
17 |
| Lucious Hunter was one of the first African-Americans to join |
18 |
| the 4H Club; he was well known throughout his community as a |
19 |
| jack of all trades, whose knowledge of his community was |
20 |
| unmatched; and
|

| WHEREAS, Lucious Hunter was involved with numerous |
2 |
| community organizations throughout Chicago; he enjoyed |
3 |
| visiting the Riverview amusement park, the Lincoln Park Zoo, |
4 |
| and North Avenue Beach with his family, fishing, watching |
5 |
| movies, and organizing and playing softball, football, and |
6 |
| basketball games; he also worked with the late Alderman Tyrone |
7 |
| Kenner and U.S. Congressman Ralph H. Metcalfe to keep gangs off |
8 |
| the streets by coordinating with his daughter's bus trips to |
9 |
| Starved Rock Park and Indiana Sand Dunes; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Lucious Hunter was preceded in death by his loving |
11 |
| wife, Flabe; his sons, Lucious Calmese and Calvin hunter; his |
12 |
| grandson, Dyron Hunter; his brothers, Wardell, Willie, Eddie, |
13 |
| Robert Lee, Isaiah, and Jessie Hunter; and his sisters, |
14 |
| Isabella, Edna, Fannie, and Elizabeth; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Lucious Hunter is survived by his children, James |
16 |
| Calmese, Willie Ruth Lee, Eugene Hunter, Donovan Hunter, |
17 |
| Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter, Brenda hunter, Bonita |
18 |
| Ersery, Delores Hunter, Angela Hunter, Marilyn Davis, and |
19 |
| Curtis (Clarissa) Davis; his sister, Bessie Williams; his |
20 |
| brothers, Henry Hunter and Council J. Hunter; his |
21 |
| mother-in-law, Lillie Davis; his daughter-in-law, Diane |
22 |
| Calmese; his sisters-in-law, Lillie (Gene) McBride and Louise |
23 |
| Davis; her brothers-in-law, Earl Davis, Jr. and Othie Davis; |
24 |
| and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, |

| other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
4 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Lucious Hunter; and be |
5 |
| it further
|
6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 |
| presented to the family of Lucious Hunter as an expression of |
8 |
| our sympathy.
