SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Robert J. Rhoads of Carlinville, who
4 passed away on March 14, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads was born on July 30, 1924, in
6 Plainview; he was the son of Robert T. and Lucille Little
7 Rhoads; he married Mary Lou Pressler on July 9, 1947, at the
8 Shipman Methodist Church; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads served his country with pride and
10 distinction in the United States Army during World War II,
11 serving some of his time in Africa; he attended Shertleff
12 College in Alton and George Washington University in
13 Washington, D.C.; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads was employed with Western Auto
15 Stores as a regional manager in the Southern United States
16 until 1966; he and his wife became the owners and operators of
17 the Sears Catalog and Merchant Store in Carlinville and
18 Staunton until they sold the business in 1998; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads enjoyed traveling; he flew on the
20 Concorde and sailed on the Queen Elizabeth II, visited all 50
21 states, and traveled throughout Mexico; he also enjoyed

1 visiting people, singing, and telling stories; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads was a member of the Federated Church
3 in Carlinville; he also served as Commodore of the Macoupin
4 Station Yacht Club; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads was preceded in death by his wife,
6 Mary Lou, and his brother, Sam Rhoads; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Robert Rhoads is survived by his son, Kurt Rhoads;
8 his daughter, Robyn Stone; his granddaughter, Sydni Stone; his
9 niece and nephew; and his sister-in-law, Joanne Rhoads;
10 therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 his family and friends, the passing of Robert J. Rhoads; and be
14 it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Robert Rhoads as an expression of
17 our sympathy.
