2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Alex Robert Seith, former Hinsdale | ||||||
4 | resident, of Hollywood, Florida, who passed away on March 23, | ||||||
5 | 2010; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was born July 27, 1934 in Aurora to Alex and | ||||||
7 | Helen Seith; as a young man, he earned the Rank of Eagle Scout, | ||||||
8 | participated in debate, track, and football at Aurora West High | ||||||
9 | School, graduating in 1952; he attended Yale University on | ||||||
10 | scholarship, earning a degree in philosophy in 1956; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, He married Frances Remington of Rochester, New | ||||||
12 | York in September of 1956; he earned his law degree at Harvard | ||||||
13 | University in 1960, and returned to the Chicago area to become | ||||||
14 | a well-known corporate and real estate attorney; throughout the | ||||||
15 | early years of his career, he also served as a Captain in the | ||||||
16 | United States Army Reserve; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, While in college, he formed a keen interest in | ||||||
18 | politics and history, which would last throughout his life; he | ||||||
19 | became an active member of the Chicago Young Democrats and was | ||||||
20 | a former chairman of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations; | ||||||
21 | most notably, he served as chairman of the Cook County Zoning | ||||||
22 | Board of Appeals for more than 40 years; and |

1 | WHEREAS, He was the 1978 Democratic nominee for the United | ||||||
2 | States Senate from Illinois; a complete newcomer to electoral | ||||||
3 | politics, he narrowly lost to incumbent Republican Charles | ||||||
4 | Percy; he later went on to co-own a number of radio stations, | ||||||
5 | including WSDR/WSSQ in Sterling, as well as Illinois News | ||||||
6 | Network, a statewide radio network; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s he | ||||||
8 | provided on-air commentaries for WLS (Channel 7) television in | ||||||
9 | Chicago; he was frequently a guest on local television and | ||||||
10 | radio stations offering election-night analysis; he had a | ||||||
11 | passion for travel, taking his children and grandsons on | ||||||
12 | numerous "history lesson" trips to the former Soviet Union, | ||||||
13 | Czech Republic, and the great cities of Europe; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, and | ||||||
15 | his parents, Alex and Helen Seith; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Alex Seith is survived by his children, William | ||||||
17 | (Carol Johnson) Seith, Kathleen (George) Corso, and Robert | ||||||
18 | (Cathy VanSchwartz); and his grandchildren Sebastian, Calvin, | ||||||
19 | and Alexis Seith; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |

1 | his family and friends, the passing of Alex Seith; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Alex Seith as a symbol of our | ||||||
5 | sincere sympathy.
