| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Queen T. Holman; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Queen Holman was born on September 6, 1929, in |
| 5 |
| Jonestown, Mississippi; her parents were Columbus and Della |
| 6 |
| Harris; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, In 1935, Queen Holman and her family moved to |
| 8 |
| Memphis, Tennessee; she acknowledged Christ at an early age and |
| 9 |
| was baptized by the late Pastor James E. Turner at the St. Luke |
| 10 |
| M.B. Church in Memphis; she attended St. Luke's until her |
| 11 |
| parents relocated their family to Chicago in 1946; she then |
| 12 |
| moved on to Newark, New York, where she completed her last year |
| 13 |
| of high school while living with her sister, Iona Paul; she |
| 14 |
| later returned to Chicago, where she married her high school |
| 15 |
| sweetheart, Cary A. Holman, Sr.; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Queen Holman was a founding member of the New |
| 17 |
| Mount Zion M.B. Church, which was pastored by her stepfather, |
| 18 |
| the late Rev. William Hudson; she served as a soloist in the |
| 19 |
| church's Gospel Choir, church secretary of finance, and leader |
| 20 |
| of the church's GED and community programs; she later moved |
| 21 |
| with her husband to South Holland, where she joined the St. |
| 22 |
| Mark Baptist Church Cathedral under the leadership of the late |

| Bishop Willie Jordan; and |
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Queen Holman attended the Kennedy King School of |
| 3 |
| Nursing, where she earned her RN degree after completing the |
| 4 |
| State Board with high scores; she was employed with numerous |
| 5 |
| medical facilities, including St. Luke's Rush Presbyterian |
| 6 |
| Hospital, Michael Reese Hospital, the Chicago Board of Health, |
| 7 |
| St. Bernard's Hospital, Cermak, the Post Office Infirmary, and |
| 8 |
| numerous private cases and geriatric institutions; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Queen Holman was preceded in death by her parents; |
| 10 |
| her husband; her brothers, Eddie, Shallie, Albert, and Isaiah; |
| 11 |
| and her sisters, Helen, Iona, and Bertha Mae; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Queen Holman is survived by her daughters, Brenda |
| 13 |
| and Janice (Sidney); her sons, Edgar, Sr. and Cary, Jr. |
| 14 |
| (Wilma); her step-daughter, Phyllis; her grandchildren, Carl, |
| 15 |
| Danielle (Maurice), Shanae, Tenesha (Andre), Edgar, Jr., |
| 16 |
| Caressa, Anthony, Amber, Naija, and Janai; her |
| 17 |
| great-grandchildren, Carlos, Diamonte, Zori, Maurice, Khloe, |
| 18 |
| Adajanai, Clifton, and Ezra; her sister, Rev. Dr. Princilla |
| 19 |
| Hudson-Gilliam; her sisters-in-law, Vera Harris, Ruth Hudson, |
| 20 |
| and Dorothy Smith; her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her |
| 21 |
| special friends, Jean Augusta and Howard Goodman; her special |
| 22 |
| cousin, Vandella Brooks; and her many other relatives and |
| 23 |
