2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Rosalie Doherty of McHenry, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 26, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She was born September 23, 1928, in McHenry, to | ||||||
6 | Joseph A. and Elizabeth (Neiss) Williams; she met her future | ||||||
7 | husband, Donald Doherty, at age 13; they married August 4, | ||||||
8 | 1951, at St. Mary's Church in McHenry; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She was a lifelong resident of McHenry, graduated | ||||||
10 | from McHenry High School in 1946, and after graduation, worked | ||||||
11 | at Ringwood Chemical and Auto-Lite; throughout the years, she | ||||||
12 | remained close to her circle of high school friends, | ||||||
13 | affectionately referred to as the "Girls of '46"; she looked | ||||||
14 | forward to monthly luncheons with the "Girls of '46"; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with | ||||||
16 | her family; she also found time to assist her husband at Bolger | ||||||
17 | Drug Store, which they owned for 28 years; from 1961 to 1973, | ||||||
18 | Donald was mayor of McHenry and she enjoyed her role as the | ||||||
19 | "First Lady of McHenry"; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church; | ||||||
21 | other civic affiliations included FISH and Big Brothers Big |

1 | Sisters, two organizations that allowed her to show her true | ||||||
2 | compassion and generosity; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, She received the Woman of the Year Award from the | ||||||
4 | McHenry Business & Professional Women's Organization; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She showed her fierce competitive spirit during | ||||||
6 | regular afternoon Scrabble games with her husband; she also | ||||||
7 | enjoyed tending to her African violets, reading, needlework, | ||||||
8 | and attending the McHenry Band concerts; during almost 59 years | ||||||
9 | of marriage, she faithfully kept a daily diary reflecting on | ||||||
10 | her life which she lived to its fullest; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her | ||||||
12 | brother, Richard; her sister, Beatrice Newkirk; and her | ||||||
13 | son-in-law, Randy Jackson; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Rosalie Doherty is survived by her husband, | ||||||
15 | Donald; her 10 children, Colleen Jackson, Jay (Colleen Drumm) | ||||||
16 | Doherty, Celeste (Michael) Heidemann, Cynthia (David) | ||||||
17 | Henderson, Christine (Kenne) Ludwig, Carolyn (Bob) Sweeney, | ||||||
18 | Joseph (Kimmy) Doherty, Connie (Joe) Bopp, Catherine (John) | ||||||
19 | Brodbeck, and Carmel (Donald) Ray; her 21 grandchildren, | ||||||
20 | Courtney and Katelynn Jackson, Jay Donald, Rosalie, Ignatius, | ||||||

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
6 | her family and friends, the passing of Rosalie Doherty; and be | ||||||
7 | it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Rosalie Doherty as a symbol of our | ||||||
10 | sincere sympathy.
