2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Alex Lopez; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Alex Lopez was born in November of 1965, in |
5 | | Weslaco, Texas; his parents were Jose M. Lopez and Maria Cruz |
6 | | Lopez; after he moved back to Chicago Heights with his family, |
7 | | he attended Garfield Elementary School and Washington Junior |
8 | | High School before graduating from Bloom Township High School |
9 | | in 1983; he then earned his finance degree from Western |
10 | | Illinois University in 1988; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Alex Lopez began his career in politics in 1995, |
12 | | when he was elected to the Chicago Heights Park District board; |
13 | | he served as a commissioner until 2003; from 2003 to 2006, he |
14 | | worked for Chicago Heights as the director of Thornwood |
15 | | Apartments; in 2006, he was hired to serve as the Chicago |
16 | | Heights Park District superintendent; in 2007, he was elected |
17 | | to the Chicago Heights City Council to serve as alderman of the |
18 | | 2nd Ward; in April of 2009, he was appointed to serve as Mayor |
19 | | of Chicago Heights, where he served until his passing; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Alex Lopez will be fondly remembered by his loving |
21 | | family and friends, his constituents, and his colleagues in |
22 | | Chicago Heights as a soft-spoken, honest, and thoughtful family |
