SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal
4Robert John "R.J." Newton of Creve Coeur, who passed away on
5August 23, 2010, while supporting combat operations in Bastion,
6Afghanistan; and
 
7    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton was born on August 21, 1989,
8in Naples, Florida; his parents were Richard B. and Denise R.
9Wainscott Newton; and
 
10    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton enlisted in the United States
11Marine Corps shortly after graduating from East Peoria
12Community High School in 2007; he served with the 3rd
13Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division; he
14was the recipient of numerous medals and decorations for his
15meritorious service, including the Marine Good Conduct Medal,
16the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Afghanistan and Iraq
17Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the
18National Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal ISAF
19Afghanistan, and a posthumous Purple Heart; he was well-known
20among his peers for his great pride in being a United States
21Marine; and
 
22    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton loved all outdoor activities,

1including hunting, rock climbing, and playing baseball; he also
2greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and
3driving his 4x4 truck; and
 
4    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton is survived by his parents;
5his sister, Breanna Newton; his paternal grandparents, Robert
6and Linda Newton; his maternal grandparents, John "Jack" and
7Anita Wainscott; his aunt, Rebecca (Robert) Handy; his uncles,
8Randall Newton and David (Tina) Wainscott; his many extended
9family members; and his many lifelong friends; and
 
10    WHEREAS, LCpl. Robert Newton's patriotism and courage will
11be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers,
12and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of United States Marine
16Corps Lance Corporal Robert John "R.J." Newton; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of LCpl. Robert Newton as an expression
20of our sympathy.
