| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Evans Demos Archos of Lakewood, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 9, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Evans Archos was born in Valtetsi, Arcadia, |
| 6 | | Greece, in 1935; he was the son of Demos and Angeliki |
| 7 | | Eikosipentarchos; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to the sponsorship of his uncle, Nick |
| 9 | | Cocalas, Evans Archos emigrated to the U.S. from Greece in 1955 |
| 10 | | to live his American dream; in 1958, he opened his first |
| 11 | | restaurant, The John Evans Restaurant, in Evanston with his |
| 12 | | partners, his brother, Dean D. Archos, and his cousin, John C. |
| 13 | | Cocalas; a few years later, he saw an opportunity in the |
| 14 | | then-small community of Crystal Lake to open the John Evans Inn |
| 15 | | Restaurant and Banquet Facility with his partner, his brother, |
| 16 | | John D. Archos, and his wife, Demetra E. Archos; the John Evans |
| 17 | | Inn distinguished itself by becoming the premiere dining venue |
| 18 | | of the Northwest suburbs for decades; in 2001, the restaurant |
| 19 | | closed its doors after serving the community for over 3 decades |
| 20 | | and was renovated and leased to the Walgreens Corporation; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Evans Archos passionately served his community on |
| 22 | | both business and community boards; he was a past President and |
|

| 1 | | member of the Valtetsion Society, a 30-plus year member of the |
| 2 | | Lions, Mason, and Shriners Clubs, a past President and member |
| 3 | | of the McHenry County Chapter of the Restaurant Association of |
| 4 | | Illinois, the founding member of the Crystal Lake |
| 5 | | Shop-with-a-Cop Charity Program, and a co-founding member of |
| 6 | | Saint Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church of Palatine and Saint |
| 7 | | Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church of Elgin; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Evans Archos enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and |
| 9 | | entertaining his friends and family amongst his homes in |
| 10 | | Greece, Bonita Springs, Florida, and Lakewood; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Evans Archos was preceded in death by his parents |
| 12 | | and his brothers-in-law, Evangelos Mitrakos and Andreas |
| 13 | | Mitrakos; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Evans Archos was married for 42 years to his |
| 15 | | loving wife, Demetra E. Archos; he is survived by his |
| 16 | | daughters, Angelique (Hicham) Archos-Solhi and Valerie |
| 17 | | (Ludwig) Archos-Beutel; his siblings, Dean (Paula) Archos, |
| 18 | | Maria (the late Panos) Bourlokas, Lee (Eugenia) Archos, Georgia |
| 19 | | (the late Andreas) Giannakopolous, and John (Helen) Archos; his |
| 20 | | brothers-in-law, Athansios (Ekaterina) Mitrakos and Kostas |
| 21 | | (Anda) Mitrakos; his sisters-in-law, Panagoula E. and |
| 22 | | Panagoula A. Mitrakos; and his many loving nieces, nephews, |
| 23 | | cousins, godchildren, and friends; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 3 | | his family and friends, the passing of Evans Demos Archos; and |
| 4 | | be it further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the family of Evans Archos as an expression of our |
| 7 | | sympathy.
