SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Evans Demos Archos of Lakewood, who passed away on August 9, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Evans Archos was born in Valtetsi, Arcadia, Greece, in 1935; he was the son of Demos and Angeliki Eikosipentarchos; and

WHEREAS, Thanks to the sponsorship of his uncle, Nick Cocalas, Evans Archos emigrated to the U.S. from Greece in 1955 to live his American dream; in 1958, he opened his first restaurant, The John Evans Restaurant, in Evanston with his partners, his brother, Dean D. Archos, and his cousin, John C. Cocalas; a few years later, he saw an opportunity in the then-small community of Crystal Lake to open the John Evans Inn Restaurant and Banquet Facility with his partner, his brother, John D. Archos, and his wife, Demetra E. Archos; the John Evans Inn distinguished itself by becoming the premiere dining venue of the Northwest suburbs for decades; in 2001, the restaurant closed its doors after serving the community for over 3 decades and was renovated and leased to the Walgreens Corporation; and

WHEREAS, Evans Archos passionately served his community on both business and community boards; he was a past President and member of the Valtetsion Society, a 30-plus year member of the Lions, Mason, and Shriners Clubs, a past President and member of the McHenry County Chapter of the Restaurant Association of Illinois, the founding member of the Crystal Lake Shop-with-a-Cop Charity Program, and a co-founding member of Saint Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church of Palatine and Saint Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church of Elgin; and

WHEREAS, Evans Archos enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and entertaining his friends and family amongst his homes in Greece, Bonita Springs, Florida, and Lakewood; and

WHEREAS, Evans Archos was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, Evangelos Mitrakos and Andreas Mitrakos; and

WHEREAS, Evans Archos was married for 42 years to his loving wife, Demetra E. Archos; he is survived by his daughters, Angelique (Hicham) Archos-Solhi and Valerie (Ludwig) Archos-Beutel; his siblings, Dean (Paula) Archos, Maria (the late Panos) Bourlokas, Lee (Eugenia) Archos, Georgia (the late Andreas) Giannakopolous, and John (Helen) Archos; his brothers-in-law, Athansios (Ekaterina) Mitrakos and Kostas (Anda) Mitrakos; his sisters-in-law, Panagoula E. and Panagoula A. Mitrakos; and his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Evans Demos Archos; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Evans Archos as an expression of our sympathy.
