SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bill Jacobs of Hinsdale, who passed away
4on September 5, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs was well-known throughout
6metropolitan Chicago for his thriving automobile dealership
7business; he began in Joliet with a Chevrolet dealership that
8he purchased from his father at the age of 23, which made him
9the youngest large-volume Chevrolet dealer ever appointed by
10General Motors; over the years, he built the group into 10
11dealerships with Illinois franchises for BMW, Mini,
12Volkswagen, Land Rover, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Mazda, Subaru,
13Kia, and Mitsubishi; last year, the Bill Jacobs Automotive
14Group employed about 480 staff and earned around $300 million
15in sales; once he had a sizable and deep management team in
16place, he began expanding into auto-related and real estate
17businesses; he also became a noted collector of antique cars
18that regularly appeared and were sold at major antique auto
19shows from Pebble Beach to Europe; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs served on the National Dealer Councils
21for BMW, Land Rover, and Chevrolet; he was also president of
22the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevrolet Dealers
23Advertising Group and a member of the advisory boards of 2

1automotive museums; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs and his dealerships were the
3recipients of numerous awards, including the Time Magazine
4Quality Dealer of the Year Award, the General Motors Jack Smith
5Award, and the Chevrolet and Cadillac Genuine Leader Award; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs had a life-long involvement with the
7communities were he did business; he served as both education
8chair and president of the Chicago Chapter of the YPO and was
9involved in the WPO; he was the recipient of the Rush
10Neurobehavioral Center's Living Proof Award; he was a founding
11member of the RNBC advisory board; he served on the Friends of
12Prentice Hospital Advisory Board and the Hinsdale Center for
13the Arts Board; he was a founding member and substantial
14contributor of the Will County Center for Economic Development;
15the Bill Jacobs Group was also recognized by the Susan G. Komen
16Breast Cancer Foundation for 10 consecutive years for raising
17the most funds of any BMW dealership in the United States; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs is survived by his wife, Linda R.
19Jacobs; his sons, William T. Jacobs III, Kevin M. Jacobs,
20Maximilian K. Jacobs, and Clayton R. Jacobs; and his mother,
21Jeanne Jacobs; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
2his family and friends, the passing of Bill Jacobs; and be it

4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Bill Jacobs as an expression of our
6sympathy.
