2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Bill Jacobs of Hinsdale, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on September 5, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs was well-known throughout | ||||||
6 | metropolitan Chicago for his thriving automobile dealership | ||||||
7 | business; he began in Joliet with a Chevrolet dealership that | ||||||
8 | he purchased from his father at the age of 23, which made him | ||||||
9 | the youngest large-volume Chevrolet dealer ever appointed by | ||||||
10 | General Motors; over the years, he built the group into 10 | ||||||
11 | dealerships with Illinois franchises for BMW, Mini, | ||||||
12 | Volkswagen, Land Rover, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Mazda, Subaru, | ||||||
13 | Kia, and Mitsubishi; last year, the Bill Jacobs Automotive | ||||||
14 | Group employed about 480 staff and earned around $300 million | ||||||
15 | in sales; once he had a sizable and deep management team in | ||||||
16 | place, he began expanding into auto-related and real estate | ||||||
17 | businesses; he also became a noted collector of antique cars | ||||||
18 | that regularly appeared and were sold at major antique auto | ||||||
19 | shows from Pebble Beach to Europe; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs served on the National Dealer Councils | ||||||
21 | for BMW, Land Rover, and Chevrolet; he was also president of | ||||||
22 | the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevrolet Dealers | ||||||
23 | Advertising Group and a member of the advisory boards of 2 |

1 | automotive museums; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs and his dealerships were the | ||||||
3 | recipients of numerous awards, including the Time Magazine | ||||||
4 | Quality Dealer of the Year Award, the General Motors Jack Smith | ||||||
5 | Award, and the Chevrolet and Cadillac Genuine Leader Award; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs had a life-long involvement with the | ||||||
7 | communities were he did business; he served as both education | ||||||
8 | chair and president of the Chicago Chapter of the YPO and was | ||||||
9 | involved in the WPO; he was the recipient of the Rush | ||||||
10 | Neurobehavioral Center's Living Proof Award; he was a founding | ||||||
11 | member of the RNBC advisory board; he served on the Friends of | ||||||
12 | Prentice Hospital Advisory Board and the Hinsdale Center for | ||||||
13 | the Arts Board; he was a founding member and substantial | ||||||
14 | contributor of the Will County Center for Economic Development; | ||||||
15 | the Bill Jacobs Group was also recognized by the Susan G. Komen | ||||||
16 | Breast Cancer Foundation for 10 consecutive years for raising | ||||||
17 | the most funds of any BMW dealership in the United States; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Bill Jacobs is survived by his wife, Linda R. | ||||||
19 | Jacobs; his sons, William T. Jacobs III, Kevin M. Jacobs, | ||||||
20 | Maximilian K. Jacobs, and Clayton R. Jacobs; and his mother, | ||||||
21 | Jeanne Jacobs; therefore, be it

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
2 | his family and friends, the passing of Bill Jacobs; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Bill Jacobs as an expression of our | ||||||
6 | sympathy.
